Candidiasis
Candidiasis, the most common intimate infection. Do you know how to reveal it?
We want to start every day with a smile on our face, to radiate energy and to do things our way. To overcome any obstacle that crosses our path for the entire day, and in the evening to dedicate the time left to ourselves and relax. For this to happened, we must ensure that we are always in good shape and constantly aware of our intimate health. A genital infection, for example, can affect both our physical condition and emotional balance, or our couple life.
One of the problems that we can face is candidiasis, an intimate infection caused by Candida albicans, the fungus present in small amounts in the human body that develops particularly on the background of our weak immunity. This intimate condition is also known as vulvar-vaginitis or candidiasis vaginitis, and according to statistics, it affects over 75% of women. In many cases it is about a reappearance of the infection that was not detected in time or treated properly.
What are the causes?
Since our body already plays the role of the host for candida, candidiasis can affect our intimate health at any time if our immune system is weakened.
At the same time, candidiasis is one of the most widespread diseases among young Romanians who have started their sex life, women and men alike. One of the explanation is that, although it is treated quite easily, many people who have the infection, ignore the symptoms, does not detect the infection in time and often do not receive proper treatment.
Candidiasis may even be triggered by antibiotic usage that we take to make ourselves well, such as when we want to get rid of a simple flu. In such situations, the saprophytic flora, which controls Candida in the body, suffers, which makes it possible to create a favorable environment for the development of the Candida Albicans fungus and, implicitly, the appearance of the infection.
We still need to know that this intimate affection can be determined by superficial intimate hygiene, by vaginal washings that unbalance vaginal flora or some birth control pills and hormone-based drugs. They are messing up our hormonal equilibrium and weaken the body. Infection develops more easily in such cases, including after menstruation when we are slightly more sensitive. Also, specialist doctors found out that infections are more common after menopause.
Other causes that predispose us to this intimate condition may be stress and lack of a balanced diet. A diet rich in sweets, dairy and bakery products is not beneficial. Excessive consumption of these foods leads to major imbalances and allows the Candida fungus to develop incredibly fast. According to physician Gheorghe Mencinicopschi, a renowned biologist and nutritionist, candidiasis is directly influenced by the changes we make in the diet, for which the body makes great efforts to adapt. The doctor also says that the condition can also be determined by meals rich in carbohydrates or food allergies and genetic predispositions.
What are the symptoms?
Vaginal infections have some common characteristics, so the signs of an infection can sometimes be mistaken, which is why urine testing is one of the best ways to make a difference between these pathologies.
It is good to know, first of all, what are the specific symptoms, but it is equally true that this intimate infection can occur without giving us too much headaches at first, because it may be asymptomatic. More than that, it often happens that the discomfort caused by the candidiasis is just a little upsetting, easy to bear, and at least as easy to neglect. One more reason to be as careful as possible to our body and not overlook any change in the intimate area.
Candida albicans infection can affect us, women, but it can also affect our partner. The condition has specific symptoms that manifest in a certain way and can alert us to test ourselves.
For women, one of the most common signs of vaginal candidiasis is the change of secretions. They become more abundant, have a high consistency and get a greenish-yellowish color, as well as an unpleasant smell. Other embarrassing symptoms that can cause us to suspect a candidiasis may be the sting while urination or the urge to urinate frequently.
Some women also accused vaginal itching and stings, redness and dryness in the intimate area, symptoms that occur because vaginal secretions specific to Candida albicans infection are acidic. At the same time, some of us may have the unpleasant surprise of experiencing pain during sexual intercourse. Each organism is different and the infection can manifest through one or more signs with higher or lower intensity. It is important to remember that the symptoms of candidiasis are usually more pronounced before menstruation in the days preceding this period. It is best to test us right away, even if the discomfort is, perhaps, bearable.
Although it is rarely found in men, they may also be affected by Candida Albicans. The genital candidiasis in men is also known in the country side under the name “balanita” and has easy-to-identify symptoms: irritation in the foreskin area, increased itching, redness and inflammation, accompanied by a rather unpleasant smell. Other signs that should raise a question mark are abundant and whitish secretions, but also smarting during urination or during intercourse. For your good, it is best to test yourself as soon as possible.
What are the risks?
Usually Candida infections can be easily treated with antifungal drugs but it is very important to find it in time for treatment to be effective. If we postpone testing, we only allow the infection to develop and, consequently, we will heal in a longer period of time.
In addition, for people suffering from immune system disorders (eg, AIDS), candidosis is more difficult to treat and can easily reappear after treatment. This way, a Candida infection in a body with a very weak immunity system can endanger the patient’s life. The infection can pass into the bloodstream and from there, reach the vital organs.
